perserverance (James 1:2-4)
How is it that perserverance makes you mature and even complete? Considering trials "pure joy" is rather contradictory to our expectations or intuition. But what if we do? We approach the trial as a test, not as a likely disappointment. Undoubtedly there will be disappointment, but it won't be defeating. So how do you perservere? Why do you perservere? Because you believe in a context. You believe in a reason and purpose. You believe that life is not filled with senseless pain and disappointment. You believe in Someone's promise. So if "perserverance must finish it's work", you know you can make it. That should make you glad. You can meet a challenge...because you believe in something that you will live out and trust it can carry you through. (What do we trust in? Usually ourselves.) I think when you persevere, faith that is worked out is somehow worked in. ...if your premise is right, if you know the Truth, your big picture is only richer, your joy only more complete. Truth sets you free. ...what is joy?
